About the book
Rumi is Bahman Shokouhi’s historical novel about the life and transformation of Jalal al-Din Muhammad Rumi. It follows his childhood in Balkh, his family’s migration, life in Konya and his encounter with Shams of Tabriz. Drawing together history, imaginative storytelling and elements of magical realism, Shokouhi places the poet’s inner life alongside the events around him. This is a literary reimagining of Rumi’s world, rather than a strictly documentary biography.
